TV Shows

I thought that for today, I would a write a small post about TV shows that i enjoy as well as some that I don't. I have to say that while I am a fan of a broad variety of shows, there is a trend in my viewing habits. I am of course capable of sitting down and immersing myself in a drama or a thriller, provided the acting is good and the dialogue makes sense and isn't too cringe inducing or cliche. In my opinion, a good drama doesn't have to have the strongest plot or even the best storytelling. I don't need the stakes to be that high, and I don't need there to be some big twist at every turn. The problems can be small and personalized, and the plot can go where I might expect. For me, a drama or thriller comes from the dialogue and acting. When I see actors trying instill some dramatic action  in their lines, but the best they can do is just yell the words to try and create tension, I really am let down. Of course people yell, but lets be real; they don't yell all the time. These types of shows tend to over exaggerate everything, and the best ones exaggerate what would happen in real life just a bit, so you feel like your looking at someone else's world and not yours. The absolute worst shows however just have plain old terrible writing. When a show is just chock full of cliches, that is when I am properly annoyed. It gets even worse if the lines are just weak fillers to move the action along. Yeah I like some action and some fighting, but I also want to enjoy the performance. I want to see the passion and tension a character has and that is something that can only come from their lines.
Shows I absolutely love however, are comedies. I do enjoy a good straight up sitcom comedy like Seinfeld or Friends, but I really love it when other genres are mashed with comedy. I'm talking about shows like Death in Paradise or Psych, or even Burn Notice. When thrillers and mysteries are mixed in with comedy I just can't get enough. Nobody wants to be serious all the time, and mixing a comedy with a serious genre really does a create a strong show.

Spiderman 4: Into the Metaverse

At first, I thought I was going to write about Facebook doing a complete rebrand as a company and their transformation into "Meta". On Oct 28th, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company Facebook was more than just the platform Facebook and that the company name no longer encapsulated everything the company was trying to do. And just as  Google in 2015 had a restructure into parent company Alphabet, Facebook (the company) is now Meta. But as I did more research on what that entailed, I realized it's not really Facebook (from here on out Meta by the way) that I care about. Meta is just one small piece of this mess. Because, and call me cynical, I am one of the many who believe that Mark is just trying to move past all of the large pitfalls his company has recently encountered. I mean everything from large Instagram and Facebook outages to the recent whistleblower and the "Facebook Papers" cannot be good for the company name. I mean since really the beginnin...

Writing About Dune Before I Get Sued

I have a couple stories in the works right now, but I figured until I'm done with those I would post a little something to entertain you guys. Now, to be fair, I originally saw this on TikTok, but the more I looked into it, the funnier it got. And if you don't care about background, I would skip down to point #2, because that's where things get really funny.   Around 1975, about 2 decades after Frank Herbert wrote his sci-fi novel Dune , Alejandro Jodorowsky wrote a colossal attempt of a movie adaptation. This infamous script would have boasted a massive budget, with names being mentioned like Pink Floyd, Mick Jagger, and Salvador Dali. This project is well known as "the most famous movie that was never made". An absolute titan of work, there are 10 original copies of this storyboard. Note that these are copies about the making of this proposed film, filled with story ideas, concept art, dialogue, and much more in English and in French. This is not the original bo...
